Quarter
Finals
Four fixtures. The tournament narrows hard. Down to the last eight, July 9 to July 11.
The quarter-finals are where the World Cup gets honest.
Forty-eight teams started. Eight remain. Three more wins from this point and somebody lifts the trophy. The QFs are the round that makes legacies and ends them. Win it and you are in the last four, and the country starts mentally booking summer holidays around the schedule. Lose it and you go home with the question that follows every losing quarter-finalist: what was missing.
Four fixtures across three days, July 9 to July 11. The opener at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. SoFi Stadium in Inglewood gets the Friday match. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City close it on the same Saturday afternoon. Four venues. Four matches. Four sets of nerves.
The math from here is brutal. Two more wins after this and you reach the final. One more loss and your tournament ends. There is no second chance, no group-stage cushion, no third-placed-team safety net. The bracket has narrowed to its most concentrated form.
History does not love quarter-final losers. Brazil-Netherlands 2010. Brazil-France 1986. Italy 2-0 down to South Korea in 2002. The QF is the round where the tournament starts writing its eulogies for the teams that should have gone further. This page goes live before the bracket fills. Eight teams arrive here. Four leave. Track them.
